Office Information

Appointments

  • To request an appointment, please request a New Client Complimentary Call, or fill in the General Inquiry Form, and you will be contacted by a team member about your request. If we are a good fit for your needs, we will schedule your initial appointment and send you a welcome email with instructions for completing the required intake forms within our Client Portal. Forms must be completed at least 48 hours prior to your appointment date.

  • Your Primary Care Provider or another provider can refer you to Carolina Pediatric Psychiatry and Development by faxing a referral request to 919-890-9237, or they can email our office at info@carolinappd.com. We ask that direct referrals include a demographic face sheet, reason for referral, and most recent office notes.

What to expect at your New Patient Appointment

  • Initial appointments typically last from 75-90 minutes and include a comprehensive assessment of psychiatric symptoms and medical history to develop a personalized treatment plan. For children and adolescents, the provider will spend some of the time with the parent/guardian and child together, as well as time with the child alone (if appropriate for their age). The provider may also request to meet with the parent alone in some cases. If parents would like a separate consultation (without the child present), a second visit may be needed. Medication and other treatments may be recommended at this visit.

What to expect at your Return Appointments

  • For established patients, we offer 2 appointment types, lasting 25-30 minutes or 45-50 minutes. Patients with complex conditions (e.g., multiple diagnoses or multiple medications), or those receiving both medication management and therapy, will typically benefit from a 45-50 minute appointment. Appointments can be scheduled directly through the patient portal at your convenience.

Second Opinion Consultations

  • You can request consultation if you or your child are already seeing another provider and would like a second opinion about treatment recommendations. This appointment includes a detailed review of past treatments and current concerns to determine if a new approach to treatment may be helpful. Providing a comprehensive list of all prior medication/ treatment trials in advance of this appointment is extremely useful for making the most of this consultation. After the appointment, you can choose whether to continue care with our practice or return to your current provider with treatment recommendations.

Billing

  • To allow the time and flexibility needed to provide the highest standard of care, our practice is currently out of network with all insurance companies. This means that we will not directly bill your insurance for our services, and payment is collected at the time of service. However, we would be happy to help you navigate your out-of-network benefits, and we will provide an itemized receipt (also called a “super bill”) at your request to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Many patients are eligible for up to 80% reimbursement for expenses through their insurance once any deductibles are met. To find out more about your out-of-network benefits, please call the Customer Service number on the back of your insurance card or visit your insurance portal.

  • Due to CMS regulations, we are not able to accept any clients with Medicare plans at this time (including those that have Medicare as secondary insurance). We are not an NC Medicaid provider, though can accept patients with Medicaid who choose not to use their benefits for our services.

  • We are able to accept credit cards, debit cards, FSA/HSA cards, checks, and cash for payment. We request that a credit or debit card be held on file, which will be charged for services rendered.

  • Cost for services vary based on the individual needs and appointment type. You will be provided with a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) prior to your first appointment that includes our fee schedule. For more information about GFEs, please see www.cms.gov/nosurprises
